Community tees up for a good cause at CSDEF’s inaugural Food For Thought Golf Classic

The Colonial School District Education Foundation’s Food For Thought Golf Classic brought together community members, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters for a day of friendly competition while raising $25,000+ for Colonial families facing food insecurity.

“It’s exciting that this much fun can do so much good,” said Mike DeFinis, who led the effort for the Foundation. “For our first year, we had such a great turnout. The support from the community was overwhelming.”

Golfers arrived early at The 1912 Club for brunch and received a swag bag sponsored by Junkless Foods. The beautiful summer weather provided a great backdrop for the shotgun start for the full slate of 84 golfers. Beverage stations on the course were sponsored by ZNH Technologies.

After 18 holes, the foursome of Sean Shamany, Victor Collazo, Shawn Pursell, and Mike Cassano from Elite Revenue Solutions brought home first place. There was a tie for second place between the foursome of Brian Wherty, Bryan Brooks, Vinnie Mounty, and Steve Jeffries and the foursome from the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School golf team of Luke Leahy, Finn Cooper, Logan Bock, and coach Jeff Kavanagh.

Individual awards sponsored by Elite Revenue Solutions were given to Mike Rosefeldt for Closest to the Pin and Cindy Digian and Mike Fusarelli for Longest Drive. While John Kennedy Subaru was named to sponsor a chance to win a car with a Hole In One on Hole 14, no one was able to make the shot. However, PWHS senior Logan Bock did make a Hole In One on Hole 7.

Fun and fundraising continued back at the clubhouse where non-golfers joined participants in a Cocktail Hour, raffles, and the highlight of the evening: the 50/50 helicopter golf ball drop which was won by Michael Fazzini.

Colonial School District Education Foundation president Brenna Martin also gave a short speech about how the Food For Thought program provided 3,400+ lunches this past school year and offers a weekend and summer meal program for children whose families are facing food insecurity. It served as a good reminder that every sponsorship, every raffle ticket, every donation, and every round of golf will help ensure that Colonial students have access to nutritious meals when they need them most.
